Muscovite Mica Fused Glass Inclusions

Wabi-Cyber-Sabi Kintsugi

I’ve just added a new page to my site that explores a surprising transformation inside my latest fused‑glass artwork. While working with muscovite mica collected from an abandoned mine in Ojo Caliente, New Mexico, I discovered that the mineral undergoes a remarkable alchemy in the kiln — shifting from soft gray to brilliant gold and releasing tiny breath‑bubbles that become part of the piece’s visual language.

I’ve posted close‑up photographs of these inclusions along with a deeper reflection on the mineral’s origins, behavior, and symbolic role in my Wabi-Cyber-Sabi Kintsugi artwork. If you’re curious about how raw desert mica becomes luminous inside glass, you can explore the full story here:

Muscavite Mythology

Muscovite is literally a memory mineral — a layered archive of geological time. When you fuse it into glass, we are not just embedding a mineral; we are releasing:

  • ancient water
  • ancient air
  • ancient trapped light

It’s a perfect material for creating the golden seam joinery of my Wabi-Cyber-Sabi Kintsugi artwork, where the past and future speak through fracture, repair, and illumination. Read more about my artwork here:
