Dear CURRENTS 2026 Art & Technology Festival,

Please see my resume below in application for artwork submissions to the CURRENTS 2026 Art & Technology Festival. Dan McCulley and I are collaborating to envision two exciting new media art projects for your festival.

I retired in June 2016 after working 16 years for Intel Corporation as a Senior Software Engineer, Innovation Center Director and Datacenter Manager. Now I seek opportunities as a volunteer helping local non-profit organizations by applying the skills and experience acquired during my 38-year work history.

Participating in the growth of the New Media art community as a contributing artist is a wonderful opportunity. I have been a huge fan of New Media arts for many years. As you can see by my resume, I have been passionately devoted to the New Media arts as a board member, artist, curator and patron.

I have been creating digital and interactive electronic artworks ever since first getting my hands on a computer as an architecture student at the University of Florida. After graduating college and moving to New Mexico in 1981 my first work experience was in the AEC industry where I sharpened my skills in computer aided design and 3D photorealistic rendering. I also joined the Digital Fine Arts Society of New Mexico and began printing high-resolution computer-generated artwork using AutoCAD and POV-Ray software. That was the start of my journey pursuing New Media art.

Later in my career I was fortunate to become an employee of Intel Corporation. There I found myself fully immersed in the high-tech world. As Director of the Intel Innovation Center my role empowered me to reach out and benefit the community in ways I could not have imagined when I first arrived in the Land of Enchantment.

With the help of Intel’s generous support, I donated computers to Dr. Jonathan Wolfe at the Fractal Foundation, donated projectors to Steina and Woody Vasulka, donated projectors to The PASEO Project in Taos, sponsored the ISEA 2012 Symposium, provided workshops at the Taos Toolbox Makerspace, donated a supercomputer to the UNM ARTS Lab, sponsored the Duke City Shootout Digital Filmmaking Festival, hosted the Women In Technology awards, and contributed as a Board Member on the New Mexico Technology Council for six years. I was a board member of CURRENTS / Parallel Studios Inc. from February 2019 to October 2022.

As an Intel retiree I was offered the opportunity to be an Intel Encore Fellow and donate 1,000 hours of my time to a local non-profit, which I gladly took. I chose to work for the Keshet Dance and Center for the Arts in Albuquerque. Founder and Artistic Director, Shira Greenberg gave me the title of Renaissance Man, and I happily worked there part-time for a year doing everything from upgrading their wireless network, to designing and building floating dance floors for all their studios, to installing new electrical circuits for their Black Box theater. I continued my engagement (post Encore Fellowship) with Keshet working on a creative Sci-Art project in which a diverse group of dancers and scientists (including the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel) investigate opportunities to collaboratively develop a dance movement evoking a common understanding of human discovery.

My hands-on volunteer efforts since retiring from Intel, include supporting The PASEO Project in Taos. I have supported the ground-breaking work of the inspirational founders Agnes Chavez and Matt Thomas since the beginning. For example, in 2017 I volunteered to install remarkable projection-mapping animated artwork on the Hotel La Fonda de Taos, by Japanese-born Brooklyn projection mapping artist, Motomichi Nakamura. In 2018 I supported various electronic artist installations such as Circular Dimensions by Cristopher Cichocki in Kit Carson Park and installed a rear-projection system covering the front windows of the PASEO Project Hub.

As you can tell, my passion to support the New Mexico artist community continues in my retirement. It is my wish to continue to apply my past experience and devote my time, energy and skills to the important growth of New Media art and artists.

Best regards,
Tom Greenbaum

Honors and Awards

Intel 2010 Environmental Excellence Gold Award Winner

Taken in part from an Intel IT Newswire article by Karen deVallet.

Tom Greenbaum Intel Data Center Manager
Tom Greenbaum Intel Data Center Manager
of Data Center and Hosting (DCH) won a gold award for creating and driving an innovative process to reduce energy in the New Mexico data center, a solution he then proliferated globally.

Intel’s Environmental Health and Safety team recently judged over 60 nominations for the prestigious annual Environmental Excellence Award. Out of the field of nominations, DCH’s own Thomas Greenbaum won the Gold Award for creating and driving an innovative process to reduce energy in the New Mexico data center, a solution that he then proliferated globally.

In 2009 Tom reduced 1.2 million kilowatt hours in the Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Data Center that he manages. He then drove an effort that resulted in 100 power-saving projects totaling close to 14 million kilowatt hours across all global data center networks.

Tom’s methodology remains in use, and in 2010 the data center energy savings is estimated at an additional 22-million-kilowatt hours per year. Even more remarkable, 75 percent of the energy saving projects didn’t require any capital expense.
