Martial arts has been a big part of my life ever since I was young. I attribute a lot of my positive self-image, self-confidence, mental focus and spirituality to what I’ve learned in Taekwondo, firearms training and knife throwing. My Taekwondo sensei when I was a high school student taught me meditation for the first time.

Tai Chi

I studied Tai Chi in the early 1980’s learning the 108 Long Form taught to me by Great Grandmaster Willem Reeders (aka Liu Seong).

Importance of Proper Training

There is a fine line of morality and ethics that we walk studying the martial arts and being trained in the use of lethal weapons. Unfortunately, in America it is too easy for people to acquire deadly weapons without receiving proper training. Those of us who have been trained need to lead the way and provide a positive example on the proper use of deadly weapons.

In order to properly honor our teachers and the rich history of the martial arts I feel that it is important to keep focused on the serious nature of the martial disciplines. As students of the martial arts, we should respect the uniforms, dojos, tools, weapons, practice ranges and even the targets that are used in our training.
